Street art project called Urban Geode from A Common Name, a graphic designer and artist located in Los Angeles.
“The finished shapes represent geodes, crystal, quartz, or any mineral formation that you would normally find in nature, now in our planned out cities…They are always unexpected treasures. “These will not last forever and the weather will affect them as naturally as it might in nature.”
Rather than using traditional paint or wheat paste, A Common Name has been using paper in 3D. These miniature sculptures fit anywhere; in holes, pipes, brick, you name it.
Wow. Spectacular. I’d have to stop and look!!
That is awesome! I love geodes. I saw a similar idea in London with itty bitty gardens put into potholes and cracks in the cement or a hole with out its paving stone. Such a great idea to beautify these little bits of everyday life. It’s great to make people randomly smile :)

I’m in such awe of people who can formulate ideas like this — and I’m in awe of people like you who think to tell the world about them. Thank you!
:)
Very cool!
That’s amazing! But it would be more impressive if she not only had geodes, but, like, an actual volcano coming out of the brick wall as well…
Really interesting post, and congrats on being Freshly Pressed! ;)
So cool! What a brilliant idea to take something from nature, like geodes and place it in the city.

Wow, that’s neat. I’ve never seen something like that before! I’ve only been to LA once when I was really little, but I’m hoping to go back within the year–I’ll have to look out for that :) Cheers!

How inspiring! What a beautiful way to dress up Los Angeles! I can’t believe the medium is paper in 3D. I will have to check this out next time I come to LA. Thanks for sharing A Common Name’s website information. http://www.segmation.wordpress.com
For a moment, I was like “so cool”! Wonderful idea!
Sounds interesting… Not the most outrageous thing I’ve seen, but…
I love geodes!! The purple one is my favorite! Thanks for sharing :)
